Ecclesiastical
In 1990 Lichfield Cathedral approached Gerald Benney at the Goldsmiths’ Company and commissioned 17 silversmiths to make a complete set of contemporary church silver for use in its services. Richard was commissioned to make the chalice and paten in memory of Bishop Hedda, who is thought to be the founder of the Cathedral around 700 AD. This work led to further ecclesiastical commissions from the Archbishop of Canterbury and Lambeth Palace, including gifts presented to Pope John Paul II and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Three pieces by Richard Fox are now in the Vatican Collection.

Bishop Hedda's Saints Day Chalice and Paten
Richard’s design is based on church architecture experienced as a boy chorister in Warwick in the 1960s. The paten is set with square amethysts in the form of a cross on the border; similar crosses are set around the stem of the chalice. Part of the Lichfield Silver Collection, this was Fox Silver’s first ecclesiastical design.

Diocese of Southwark Crozier
The crozier combines references to Croydon with African elements that have a special resonance for Dr Rosemarie Mallett, the bishop, historian and sociologist who commissioned it. The piece was made in 2023 with two applied spiralling wires over a hollow cast body. Oak and Beech leaves were modelled by Serena, and represent the crest of Croydon.

Inner Temple Ciborium
Commissioned by the Inner Temple to commemorate the ministry of Canon Joseph Robinson, Master of the Temple, in 1999. Both the chalice and the lidded ciborium have gilt interiors, a fluted foot with a carved gilded knop and applied figures of Pegasus, abstracted from the coat of arms of the Inner Temple, and the Christian symbol of the Lamb of God. The Lamb and Pegasus were designed and modelled by Serena. The lid of the ciborium has an engraved inscription and enamelled finial.
